Sad news as one of our coaches and mentors from the Prospect High School coaching staff recently passed away.

Barrington resident, Patrick Paul Kivland, 64, died on Nov. 14, 2011, at Resurrection Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines, IL. after a sudden illness. He was born on July 26, 1947, in Evanston, IL., to Louise L. (Baumiller) Kivland of Arlington Heights, and Paul J. (“Skeex”) Kivland (deceased).
Patrick attended Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect, Il. And was a competitive gymnast throughout his high school and college years. He graduated with a Bachelor degree in Physical Education from Indiana University, and completed his Master’s degree at Michigan State University. While at Michigan State, he was called back to Prospect High School to teach and take over the boy’s gymnastics coaching position. He retired from teaching in 2004, but continued to coach girl’s golf boy’s gymnastics, and most recently, girls and boys diving. Patrick often said coaching was his life. Patrick enjoyed country line dancing, and was an avid sports participant and fan, especially for his beloved Cubs and Bears. He will be terribly missed by his beloved pekes, Sweetie and Riley.
Patrick is survived by his wife of 39 years, Christine M. (Tina) Kivland, of Barrington, IL.; children Rhett Kivland of Wauconda, IL., Tyler (Alanna) of Nashville, In., and Brea Kivland of Barrington; sisters Donna (Bill) Malloy of Roswell, Ga., Bonnie Kivlan (Alex) Clemens of Venice, Fl., brother Michael (Cindee) Kivland of Prairie Grove, IL.; sister-in-law Mary Ann (Doug) Caldwell of Petoskey, Mi.; brother-in-law John (Pat) Winfrey of Lakewood, Co.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20th, from 2-7 pm at Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home, 235 N. Main St., Wauconda, IL. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, Nov. 21st, at 10 am at Transgfiguration Catholic Church, 316 W. Mill St., Wauconda, IL. Interment will be private.
